Serial number and MAC address administration in SAP

A major manufacturer in the solar branch recently started to administrate serial numbers and MAC addresses of different devices with and without network adapter in SAP. Hereby for each produced piece of particular assemblies, a serial number is created and the corresponding MAC addresses are assigned continuously. Assignment of numbers as well as printing of identification plates was realized completely in SAP and fully integrated into the production process.
Thus the administration effort is significantly reduced even with increasing production figures and a better overview and increased transparency are given as well. After the integration of serial numbers and MAC addresses into SAP, considerable costs could be saved for service and maintenance of proprietary subsystems that were needed to date for the administration of these data.
