The Software Update Manager (SUM) is a multi-functional tool that supports various processes within the scope of system maintenance and system adaptation. For example, SUM provides support when performing a release upgrade, installing enhancement packages, applying Support Package Stacks, installing add-ons, or updating individual components.

The Software Update Manager exists in 2 versions:

  • Software Update Manager 1.0 for updating or upgrading SAP NetWeaver Java or dual-stack systems or SAP NetWeaver ABAP systems based on Release 7.4 or lower.
  • Software Update Manager 2.0 is used to update or upgrade SAP NetWeaver ABAP systems based on Release 7.5 or higher.
